The LINC program is the starting point for students whose first language is not English. LINC courses focus on vocabulary development, grammar, speaking and listening, reading and writing and settlement themes. Take these courses prior to taking Foundations courses.
Who Can Take LINC Classes? Newcomers to Canada who are:
- 17 years of age or older and
- a Permanent Resident or Convention Refugee and not yet a Canadian citizen
What Does It Cost? There is no cost for LINC classes.

Students must phone either the Vancouver or Surrey testing centre to make an appointment to take the test. The assessment test is free. After you have taken the test, the assessment centre will contact you (within two weeks) with the results. You must go back to the assessment centre for a referral letter.
Choose your location:
Childcare is available at both locations. Through play, children will learn English and school-readiness skills. Free childcare is available to parents and guardians who enroll in ELSA classes at these sites. Children must be between the ages of 18 months and 5 years. Space is limited.
