MAHJONG FOR BEGINNERS (TAIWANESE VERSION)

Always wanted to learn Taiwanese Mahjong but didn’t know where to start? This beginner-friendly course is designed for complete newcomers with no previous experience required.

You’ll learn the fundamentals step by step in a relaxed and supportive environment, including:

  • The tiles and what they represent
  • How to build winning hands
  • The basic rules and gameplay
  • Drawing, discarding, and calling tiles
  • Scoring fundamentals
  • Mahjong etiquette and table procedures
  • Strategies to help you build confidence

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to comfortably join a beginner game and enjoy playing with family and friends.


 

MAHJONG FOR INTERMEDIATE PLAYERS (TAIWANESE VERSION)

Ready to take your game to the next level? This class is designed for players who already understand the basic rules and can complete a game but want to improve their consistency and decision-making.

You’ll develop stronger playing skills through guided instruction and practice, including:

  • More efficient hand building
  • Defensive and offensive strategies
  • Reading opponents’ discards
  • Improving tile efficiency
  • Common mistakes and how to avoid them
  • Scoring with greater accuracy
  • Making better decisions throughout the game

This course focuses on helping you become a more confident, strategic, and competitive player while having fun in a supportive learning environment.

MAHJONG FOR ADVANCED PLAYERS (TAIWANESE VERSION)

Challenge yourself with high-level strategy and advanced gameplay. This course is intended for experienced Taiwanese Mahjong players who are comfortable with the rules and scoring and are looking to refine their competitive skills.

Topics may include:

  • Advanced offensive and defensive tactics
  • Reading hands and predicting opponents’ strategies
  • Risk assessment and probability
  • Maximizing scoring opportunities
  • Efficient hand development under pressure
  • Table awareness and adapting to different playing styles
  • Tournament-style decision-making and advanced game analysis

Classes feature in-depth discussions, real-game analysis, and challenging practice sessions designed to sharpen your strategic thinking and elevate your overall level of play.

Refund policy

Fee payments originally made by credit card are credited back to the same card; for expired or invalid credit cards, refunds are made by cheque. Fee payments originally made by cash or cheque are made by cheque. Please allow 3 weeks for processing.

Cancelled courses
When a course is cancelled by Burnaby CCE, a full refund will be issued.

Full time certificate / diploma programs
Requests for refunds received in writing (email) at least 1 week prior to the first day of classes starting will be refunded the course fee minus $100. Requests received less than 1 week prior to the first day of class, will get a refund minus $200. No refund is issued for a request received after classes begin.

Part time certificate / diploma programs
Requests for refunds received in writing (email) at least 1 week prior to classes starting will receive a refund minus $25. Requests for refunds received less than a week prior to classes starting will have $50 deducted from the course fee. There will be no refund once classes begin.

Career & Business Training/General Interest Courses
Requests for refunds received in writing (email) at least 2 days prior to the course starting will be refunded the course fee minus $20. Requests for refunds received less than 2 days prior to the course starting will be refunded the course fee minus $30. There will be no refunds once a course starts.
